The Teacher
My first introduction to the Alexander Technique was around 25 years ago. It intrigued me, but I wouldn't make time in my busy work and play schedule to take lessons. Unfortunately, I was eventually a victim of repetitive strain injury, and my good life spiraled downward until I was in such pain I could no longer work. I tried many different modalities and went to numerous specialists during this time. Nothing helped. Finally I decided to search the internet for other ideas and came upon the Alexander Technique for the second time. With ongoing lessons, I was able to retrain, work and develop a social network again. The benefits went far beyond the physical realm as I started to experience the inseparability of thought and action. I decided it was a skill I wanted to teach and so quit my job and trained to become a certified Alexander Technique teacher. Happily for me, my professional background in anatomy and physiology is not wasted and often enhances the lesson. I feel extremely lucky to be able to help others discover, explore and use the Alexander Technique as a self-management tool. In my lessons I strive to provide an environment of trust and cooperation, within an atmosphere of adventure. |
